The Speed Gamers

Post by Soccerryle on Thu Jun 17, 2010 12:14 am

Dammit. I meant to post about this on Friday. T.T

The Speed Gamers are a group of people who raise money for charity while speed running through video games. This time it's a Mario marathon, playing EVERY mario game from Hotel Mario to Super Mario Sunshine. Chuggaaconroy, YouTube Gaming Phenomenom is one of the people participating this time asweel. TheSpeedGamers have temporarily reached the front page of Digg, Twitter's Trending Topics, Embedded on MMOChampion, and Tweeted by Internet Celebrities such as PhilipDeFranco (SxePhil on YouTube).

The Speed Gamers are raising money for ACT Today, a charity that helps families who have children with autism so they recieve the therapy and treatment they need. Any bit helps, and you can donate as little as a penny (although it's nice to donate at least a dollar). You donate via PayPal, which can accept any type of credit card. Don't have a credit card? Go purchase a Visa gift card for $25, and donate $5 of it to TheSpeedGamers, and use the other $20 to do whatever. Any currency is accepted because PayPal converts it to USD automatically. The marathon lasts until this Friday and may possibly be extended depending on how much is donated.

You can also help by purchasing one of the shirts on their site, and 50% of the proceeds go to ACT Today, and you get a shirt aswell. Any donation of $5 puts you in a drawing to win a Black Wii bundled with Super Mario Galaxy 2. If you donate $25, you get 5 entries into the drawing, but 5 is the maximum. TheSpeedGamers do not recieve ANY profit from this, except the enjoyment of helping others. If you have a tad to spare, this is a great place to give it to.

haha, one was for autism so my mom donated like 150 dollars or something, she's awesome, she can be blunt and rude but she's also nice and funny like the other day she saw a homeless man searching through the garbage infront of Burger King so she took him in and bought him a meal Smile she GMH (Gives Me Hope) ^^ my mom rules! but seriously, I don't want a cure for autism, it's amazing, it makes kids become like musicians, mathmatitions, and other things others can't be. Autism is like a genetic superpower as I call it Smile

Well one, you may not think that if you had family members suffering from the disease.

However, this organization gives financial, medical, and psychological help to families with autism. It is not a organization searching for a cure.

Soccerryle, I have autism................. and we don't suffer, we rarely notice it until people tell us were weird or different or people who are weird and say were crazy... like you usually do.... that's what makes us feel bad for being autistic and thats what makes us wish we didnt have it........

That's you personally Bambii. Many families do struggle because of autism.

Bambii, just because I'm not autistic doesn't mean I don't know anything about autism. There are still many families who suffer due to autism.

Anyway, some guy donated a load of money to the marathon, and it's continued for an extra 10 hours or something o.o

YEP.

I hadnt watched it in a while, but NintendoCapriSun made a video saying they made 54k, when their goal was 50k.

In their final fantasy marathon an anonymous person donated I think 10k, but they didnt leave their name (hence the anonymous). Smile

you can't know much about autism unless you live it Mercury, like those weird scientist who try and get into the minds of psycos and anorexic people to see how they think.

The marathon is over now, and they raised $57,290.60 in total so far, but I think they're still accepting donations.

Yeah, they accept donations for about a week after the marathon, basically until any word of mouth about it dies out.
