WebM, Opera 10.6, and other tech stuff released

I was updating my computer after two weeks of inactivity and I find some interesting things in relation to the tech world.

First thing: The H.264 vs Ogg Theora debate is pretty much over with the release of WebM, Google's upgrade of the Ogg container. It performs substantially better than H.264 which is widely used by Apple, which is pretty much a slap in the face to the computer company as both Google and Apple work on the HTML5 specification. YouTube will be converting their videos to WebM instead of H.264, according to Opera, who released the first browser available for WebM support. Which leads into the next thing.

Second thing: Opera 10.6 was released as the final build was finally uploaded for almost every operating system. It is approximately 50% faster than the previous release which was second place in most browser tests when I last checked. It also comes with new significant features like the previously-mentioned WebM support and geolocation, which uses Google's geolocation monitor but can be changed to other monitors (I didn't). It includes new functionality such as Web Workers which are designed to make developing in JavaScript that much better by simulating a multi-threading programming language. It also has the new Opera Show which simulates presentation software like PowerPoint without the silly animations and it's written entirely in HTML.

That's all I have at the moment and I don't want to bore you all too much. Also I need some sleep, I've had a 36-hour Wednesday.

Hmm, interesting finds, Varry. Final Opera build....which means eventually, Opera will end up like the Netscape browser eventually. But making Javascript easier to work with is good news for me...

Netscape looped into Mozilla, though, and the Firefox foundation was formed. If Opera goes the way of the Netscape, it can only get better.
"Final build" means for Opera 10.6, not for the entire Opera suite. It's the first time that a synchronized release for an Opera build was released for all OSes since 10.1 which was a long time ago.
