Items are not part of the strategy of the game. They are there to be annoying xD

of course theyre part of the strategy. it keeps the game from being a hack and slash between the most powerful characters.
items, when used properly, allow even a weaker character to defeat a stronger character.

When used properly, a 'bad' character can beat a 'good' character. Items aren't needed.
